Learn How To Read Aloud To Children with Dialogue

sign up
Adults reading aloud in any language to their children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, etc. is a great way to encourage reading and to build family bonds. Research suggests that family bonds promote health.

The best way for adults to read aloud to children is to use the book as a tool to have a dialogue with the child/children. The book is less important than the discussion about whatever the children want to discuss, even if the discussion has nothing to do with the book.

This 45 minute workshop will give and explain techniques for adults to read aloud to children with dialogue. Then, the presenter will read aloud a children's book to the audience while demonstrating the techniques for promoting dialogue. Next, the presenter will show another children's book and ask the audience to brainstorm how to read aloud that book in a way that promotes dialogue with children. Questions from the audience are welcome during and after the workshop.

The presenter has done such workshops for parents at a primary school, for staff at a stat board, and for NLB's Singapore Book Council. He is author of the book 'Read Aloud Asia'.

The workshop is free to raiSE members and NGOs.
