The raiSE Social Impact Framework
Intentionality, Additionality, Proportionality

Intentionality
refers to the deliberate and strategic integration of social impact into the enterprise’s core operations.
A Social Enterprise must clearly identify the social issue or gap it seeks to address and articulate how its products or services directly respond to that need.
Impact is purposefully designed into the value proposition and business, with a clear differentiation from non-social enterprises operating within the same sector.

Additionality
requires that impact delivery is supported by processes, systems, and structures.
Social Enterprises must establish the necessary workflows, partnerships, arrangements or facilities to serve identified beneficiaries, and implement active processes to track, measure, report and disclose the social impact created.
Impact is therefore operationalised within day-to-day business practices and managed with transparency and accountability.

Proportionality
ensures that a meaningful proportion of business resources is allocated towards addressing beneficiary needs.
Impact Proportionality is measured based on the proportion of impact outputs achieved (e.g. number of beneficiaries employed) in relation to the size of the business (e.g. total staff strength). Indicators used differ across the various impact areas.
Impact is thus substantively and strategically incorporated within the enterprise’s business model.
