Conversations is a series of talks and panel discussions as part of FestivalForGood 2020 on topics regarding the social enterprise sector, social impact, and doing good in Singapore. We hope to spread awareness about social enterprises and social issues in Singapore, as well as engage members of the public in meaningful discussions about how we can make Singapore a better place for all.

Conversation 10: Envisioning a Different Future: When Ageing Isn't Ageing

Rather than taking on the traditional solutions-based approach, panelists will explore perspectives on the human centered approach in unravelling the mindset of ageing. What are some considerations in innovating inclusive products and services to allow for healthy practices and empowerment for the elderly? While taking on a human centered approach, what does it mean to redefine and reimagine a different future of ageing?

Moderator: Erwin Chan - Capacity Building, raiSE
Erwin Chan designs innovation and entrepreneurial capacity building programmes at raiSE that activates the Social Entrepreneur’s Head, Heart & Hands for transformation.

Erwin has a PhD in biomedical research and is interested in seeing systemic transformations in healthcare. During his post-graduate days, Erwin led medical and dental teams to Cambodia and facilitated social innovation projects in Indonesia and Australia. In 2012, Erwin co-founded a medical device startup that focused on developing solutions for chronic pain management. After failing, he became interested in understanding how the entrepreneurial experience can enrich the personal leadership journey. Erwin was part of the team that won first place at the MITx Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in 2016. He is a Certified Instructor for “Disciplined Entrepreneurship” for new venture creation. Erwin has taught in universities & polytechnics including Bioentrepreneurship at NTU. He also volunteers as a mentor in developing children & youths holistically.

Janice Chia - Founder & Managing Director, Ageing Asia
Influenced by the changing needs of her elders, Janice was inspired to start Ageing Asia to drive and nurture opportunities and development of innovation and solutions that address the evolving needs of the rising ageing population in APAC. Having accumulated a vast experience from visiting over 400 residential and aged care facilities from over 15 countries since 2009, Janice has been actively involved in consulting organisations seeking global best practices in housing, health and care that can be translated for Asian market. She has also been quoted regularly in the media, such as the BBC, on business trends in ageing.

Cassandra Seah - Founder & CEO, Generation Connect
Cassandra found her passion because her grandfather forgot how to come home, a home he had been living in for the past 50 years. It drove her to develop solutions for seniors and healthcare institutions to empower, enrich and ease their lives. She champions maximizing the value in concepts through frugal innovation and also, coming from a background of business and product development, she believes cross-disciplinary pathways are where new ways of thinking are nurtured to create a kinder, more efficient and sustainable environment. She is also a President PhD Scholar in Imperial College London and has multiple global accolades.

Isaiah Chng - Director, ProAge
Isaiah Chng is a social entrepreneur, clinical exercise physiologist and well-being strategist. For over 13 years, more than 200,000 have benefited from his passion and work that help people live longer, healthier and better - no matter their age. He founded ProAge, a health consultancy with a heart and consults regularly for global corporations and government agencies.
Isaiah was honoured as a President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award recipient and an awardee for Singapore’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award for the significant efforts in the community.
